Wayne State University sophomore middle blocker Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) was selected Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Sak totaled 44 kills, 16 blocks and seven services aces as WSU went 2-1 against North Division opponents last week. She matched her career-high 16 kills in a win Friday against Saginaw Valley State, and followed up with a career-best 18 kills in a five-set victory over Ferris State, breaking a 12-year losing skid against the Bulldogs. Sak also chipped in 10 kills and four blocks Sunday against Grand Valley State.
This is the first GLIAC weekly award for Sak, who leads the conference in blocks per set (1.49) and ranks second in hitting percentage (.340), third in service aces (0.61 per set) and fourth in kills (3.90 per set).
Wayne State will travel to Findlay on Friday night before hosting Hillsdale the following day as part of WSU’s Homecoming.
